London Calling

London, United Kingdom
By Haleigh In Non classé

I’ve been to London quite a bit. It’s a city I always liked but never completely fell in love with like Paris or New York. Spread out, I never felt like I could just walk and discover like I like to do in other cities. This time was different though, I finally felt like on this trip I had a sense of direction – to Mariell and Jostein’s. I was happy to be going back to London but more excited to see my friends than anything. M + J have often come to Paris to visit and stay with me, but I have long dreamed of visiting them somewhere between Norway and London and seeing what their day-to-day life was like. It was heaven. I feel at home with them, even when I’m sleeping on an air mattress. There are always home cooked meals, lots of cups of tea, and hugs to make me feel warm and fuzzy. They always have a good movie or a good song to play and we can talk for hours about anything and everything, wether it’s been a year or a few months since we last saw each other. Since we did last see each other, something amazing happened: they published their first novel that they co-wrote together. They also showed me lots to love in East London, as it was the first time I really visited this part of town. After vintage shopping on Brick Lane, the market and more at London Fields, and even finding cute places to eat in New Cross, I’m dreaming of living in East London a year or two of my life. The night before I left we went outside and to light some sparklers I brought along just because. M+J love to stop and do silly magic things like that with me for no reason. It’s one of the things that makes them great friends. Here is my little London Travel Diary through a series of my favorite snaps from my long weekend with them there.

I must admit, it took me a while to fall in love with London, too. I’ve always been a Paris kind of girl. Just like you said, somehow, even without speaking French or knowing the city well, I felt at home and found it really enjoyable just to wander and discover it bit by bit.
It was very different with London for a very long time… It confused me. I still cannot say I truly love it (I mean, it was so easy with Paris (and Bruges) – it simply happened… x

    Bonsoir Haleigh!

Ah oui Londres ne se laisse pas séduire facilement 🙂
Ce sont de beaux moments que tu as capturés et qui reflètent cette ambiance d’apparence froide mais chaleureuse de cette ville.

    A bientôt

That apartment looks like a store, it’s so well decorated! And I wouldn’t have been able to eat those meringues! The rainbow colors. They should be hung on a wall like art.

This is definitely making me want to go back to London soon!

London can be completely enchanting for those who love to explore beyond the recommendations found in the standard travel guide books.
I used to love spending time with friends in Hampstead, Highgate, Hyde Park and so many other places, wandering around, discovering a city wrapped in mystery almost a well kept secret no one would ever mention of its existence. Its magical side …
I remember I had found myself surprised no photo or film camera had been able to capture its many romantic sites, the star sparks of the night, the vibrant colors of life and all of its beauty found in the most unsuspected moments in time –up until now that is! I hope we see in the future more of London through your lenses haleigh!

Looks wonderful…although, I can empathize with you about London. I’ve been and don’t always feel so at ease there like I do in other places. It’s fun, but there is always something I just don’t mesh with. Plus, coming up from the underground with dirt in my nose because it’s so filthy is never going to top my list of fun things, haha! But, a small visit there now and again is good as I do enjoy some shopping time & art museums 🙂 Gorgeous pictures doll xx

P.S. I am so sorry I missed you when you were in London! I promise to come to Paris this year and I so hope we can finally meet for a girl date (and the next time you come to this side of the Channel, I’d love to show you around too!).
