In my heart lately burns this eternal summer. I am lusting for fall but it seems she just isn’t ready yet. The perfect weather exploring Basilicata only fed this summer fire, most particularly with our stop in Maratea. Maratea is a beautiful town by the sea. In my younger youth (I’d like to believe I am still firmly holding on to it at the ripe age of 23!) I had the chance of exploring the Ionian Sea aboard a yacht in Greece with friends. This trip I got to discover the Italian side of these perfectly blue waters and what a picturesque delight it proved to be as well. We started our day high above Maratea a top this incredible landmark of a larger than life Christ figure reminiscent of the better known one in Rio. It was constructed by a local entrepreneur in memory of his son who was lost at sea. Maratea is exactly like you would imagine your perfect seaside Italian holiday. Colorful buildings lining stone paved streets, Italian men in linen and aviators zipping down to the port on vespas to pause for a fiery sunset, Italian flags blowing in the wind and antique motor boats bobbing in the bay just begging to be taken out for a spin. Luckily we did get to head out on the water for the afternoon. It was one of my favorite days the trip…

We finished our day in Maratea with an incredible night at the ultra luxurious La Locanda Delle Donne Monache where I slept like baby in my room with a view over the glowing city lights of Maratea by night. If this place and day isn’t magic…I simply don’t know what is. More to come from Basilicata but in the meantime check out Can’t Forget It{lay} and visit the galleries to see the other photographers and film makers photos from the trip! Until next time see you on twitter, facebook, and tumblr!
Beautiful pics as always! I’m kind of glad that autumn is finally here, though.
Such pretty town and you’ve captured its beauty so well! I also love the shot of you drinking coke! Perfection 😉

I just adore that you won’t let summer go just yet-it’s been warm in SF and I’ve been loving the few extra degrees!
Love following your travels to behold the beauty of this world. You are always so beautiful, there is a purity in your beauty sweetie don’t ever let go of that. Is that you swimming underwater? amazing photo. And the one of you in your peach suit is just loveliness. Definetly a magical place. I like how you photograph all the religious statues and altars of Italy…I wish it were like that here in the states.
wow thanks you so much Kerrie! Your words are so kind and making me blush 🙂 I love that suit…I have worn it so much this summer…it’s from American Apparel. And the under water photo was taken by my fellow filmmaker Chris that has this amazing underwater camera. Better yet we have video footage underwater that will be in the film I am producing of the region that will come out in about two weeks!
