Hi babydolls! So here I am, back in the states again for some summer vacation. I was never one too keen on this American life. I had my eyes set on other continents when I left this place, rather untethered to this territory. Now it’s been some years I’ve been away and coming back is always a sort of rediscovery, nostalgic in a special way not of my past but of this sort of greater rusty and sun bleached American dream you see on billboards along the 405. Ironically the more time I spend away, the more I identify myself with it. And the more I come back, the more I like it.

The photos are from up and down the coast in Santa Barbara, Los Angeles (LACMA, who needs Paris to see Dufy, Magritte, and Picasso?), and Newport Beach. I hear things have been quite slow back in Paris from those who are still there, so I imagine I’m not missing much. So I’m just gonna go ahead and enjoy the big streets and bright cities, supermarkets and super sizes, and friends and family here until Paris calls me home in two weeks, in which case I will be more than happy to go! Let’s chat more on facebook, twitter, and tumblr!
Beautiful photos! I’m glad to see that your summer is going well!!

I’d actually love to live in America, I miss it so much! Very jealous of your Californian holiday right now…
I’m living in Australia at the moment, instead of my native Britain, and I still don’t feel like I know where I belong – I can’t wait to get back to Sydney, though, because of all the places I’ve been that feels the most like I belong there!
Good luck – and enjoy your summer! It looks beautiful!
(With love from a rainy, Canberra winter! x)

Santa Barbara, oh my homeland! I agree, now that I live in London, I feel terribly proud to be from the most beautiful town on earth (me, biased!?).
Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos, especially love the photo of the town with the Santa Ynez mountains in the background.
even though i’m born and raised in so cal, i really long to move out and see europe (maybe even live there). i love living in LA but it doesn’t feel like home. thanks for keeping up your blog. it really inspires me to keep my dream of traveling and seeing the world.
